Day Job
        For Denise, the science teacher...

Working
the night shift,
the plants and trees

all serve
as appreciative artisans
of moon sighs and star tearsÉ

but come morning,
they all return
to their day jobs,

effectively assuring
that light energy from the sun
is properly transformed

into chemical energy
via the production
of glucose molecules.

Unnerved

High winds blew all night,
rattling the broken window
in the kitchen,
the corner pane
with the tiny hole,

formed from a misguided BB,
intended for a coyote,
but now imbedded deep
in the demoralized fibers
of double-paned glass.

Cycle

"You've got the sun, you've got the moon, and you've got the Rolling Stones." Keith Richards

For Kevin, the history teacherÉ

The moon hangs low
on its fishing line,
dangling at the end of a hook,

episodically close,
dressed in full ball gown,
designed to tempt the nightlife,

those unique souls
whom show themselves
but once a month, suddenly wakened,

celestially vibrant,
cyclically alive, unknowingly
salivating from the influence of the lunar bait.
