Forty years ago as many as half a million young people gathered on a farm in Sullivan County New York for three days of rain and mud and music and shared participation in a great moment of history. The moment symbolized that revolutionary epoch we call "The Sixties" which ran on at least to the Nixon resignation in '74. So much of our politics and culture changed forever at that time. Maybe this is a good occasion for us all to "ruminate" on the changes and their validity now four decades later.
I think we have a delightful issue here in our thirty first year of publishing Home Planet News. Something for everyone to enjoy in our characteristic "eclectic mix."
I happened to glance at a calendar during this writing and noticed it is October 27th, which is the birthday of both Dylan Thomas and Sylvia Plath, whom Enid and I regarded as tutelary spirits for this publication, and used to celebrate the occasion at our fall fundraisers at the Cedar whenever we could get a Sunday close to the date. So a birthday nod to Sylvia and Dylan.
And, finally, Obama's in the White House and, while all 's not right with the world, it does feel just a tiny bit better, doesn't it?
