A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu

Little birds of memory
fly out their cage
and await, in special spots,
their retrieval;

for they are the tamed
birds of wild life, winged
images captured
from flocks that once

covered heaven from
horizon to horizon and
deafened earth with
the beating of their wings.

Unofficial

Off the record, this
is where it happens--
no GPS, no proven facts--but
its unreality is real;
tracking it, we
make a paper trail

Dream Lover

Between the sheets
of golden time,

ginger honey
and fig jam's
amber droplets

color dreams
that tease a tongue's

thirst once
slaked on
nectared teas

and tartlet cakes,
those airy forms

for sweetest sweets,
surrogates
of wide awake.

Poet As If Bellerophon

When the winged horse
comes for you,

leap to his sleek back

and tuck your legs
behind those miracles,

those airfoils,

the begetters of
his power, those

ailerons of fate

generated by
god from monster

and fly, even

to Olympus,
even if the

gadfly sting.
